beauty at music festivals – weekends away – city breaks June 21, 2008

this week is officially a wash out.  The rain is pouring down right now as festivals kick off both at home and abroad.  With windy conditions and possible muddy wellies to look forward to, what beauty tips are there that will get us through it all, still making us look like fresh faced Aphrodites?

The best advice is to get your skin in as good a condition as possible.  Moisturise regularly and exfoliate when needed. Never be too harsh as this will irritate the skin.  Have a little tin of vaseline at hand to make lips shine and use on eyelashes if mascara is missing in action. (Vaseline as a mascara will not make black streaks on your face should you get caught in a downfall!)

Pull long hair back in a ponytail and dress with ribbon or pins.  This way you avoid the ‘dragged through the hedge’ look.  If you have a dual purpose blush/lip stain then you are laughing!  These gems ensure you have a youthful glow when the day is taking its toll.

One thing that can make the best of weekends/festivals seem like an ordeal is dragging heavy shower gels, shampoos and soaps along for the ride.  One good idea is to get your hands of some liquid free paper soaps, shaving foams and laundry paper.  These are invaluable and inexpensive.  They also mean you have more room in your bag for purchases!!

try www.emilyescapes.com for all your beauty needs this summer, washout or not :)

right now the weather is hotting up and it’s time to think about getting away somewhere, anywhere even for a few hours. Today it was so hot in the office that all I could think of was dipping my very hot toesies into some cool water. Well, try this… If you can’t get to some foot dippin’ coolness, this foot treat is great.

It’s a gel filled ’slipper’ (squigey cool foot pad) that you can pop your foot/feet on. It can be kept in the fridge if you like or even if you have cold feet you could warm it in a sink of warm water first.

where is it?  there was sunshine and nice mornings.. and then… nothing… Now we are in an Arctic chill.  Ah well, at least that is the time when we can pamper ourselves.  In the evenings I am lighting aromatherapy candles, and surfing the web making plans for my hols.

This year I have promised myself to finally go on a Painting Holiday in France.  Soooo excited… I am trying to put together the perfect painting holiday wardrobe which is not so easy.. Hilarious in fact!  How do you put something like that together?  I am not a ‘floaty dress’ kinda gal so it’s all little tops, wraps and silky scarves. One thing I am gonna make sure I have is a large gel eye mask. They are great for getting rid of puffy eyes from sinus, hay fever and exhaustion… and just might help with the eyes after a vino or two with diner! ;)

every so often I do it; I buy totally ridiculous shoes.  Not only are they ridiculous, but they perhaps would not pass a Health & Safety check; too high, too narrow, too pointy, silly skinny strap, no support and architecturally impossible heel shapes.  And I do this when it’s a really important occasion too!  A big day out, a wedding… at the thought of it I can still feel the burn ;) and that’s putting it mildly.  My point here is, we all know the abuse our little toesies take and the terrible stings and burns we get.  Well, you have to try these gel filled slippers, they are like coool squishy pads under your feet after a long day shopping, long night dancing or just a long day in the wrong shoes!  Lovely.  You can even put them in warm water and put them under your feet to warm you up.

chapter 5 – the difficult issue of puffy eyes February 17, 2008

The previous night of partying and dancing at the hotel left tell tale signs on everyone, well nearly everyone; emily was sitting at her breakfast table all lit up by the yellow morning sunshine.  As she reached for her orange juice light hit her glass and sent little flashes across the room.  You simply had to look at her.  She was smiling to herself at some moment from the night before – her face as smooth and youthful.. as if she had woken from the most wonderful sleep.  Why is everyone wearing sunglasses inside?, she wondered

chapter 4, emily buys chocolate January 30, 2008

the street seemed dull except for the bustle outside a little shop whose yellow light shone like a beacon. There was definitely something to investigate here, she thought. Stepping slowly on the cobbled street, emily felt like an alien landed here for this very moment; like a spectator that no one could see. Deciding to take in every detail, she approached the shop slowly and deliberately. But what’s this? this familiar sweetness in the air? Emily’s heart jumped, chocolate. It’s a chocolate shop. The window was filled with every possible taste combination; cherry, vanilla, coffee, strawberry… Every favourite moment has chocolate in it, she thought. Memories of being small and given something special because she was good rose in her like a wave. Emily felt that she was good today. She stepped inside.

Chapter 3, emily watches the rain January 10, 2008

‘Everything is so dull when it rains’, the waiter commented as he put the cup on the table. Emily tilted her head and nodded a bewildered ‘yeah’. As she stirred her coffee a little smile came over her face. Rain just washes the dirt away. Like stones at the sea side, they’re more colourful when wet. ‘I like the rain’, Emily said in a half whisper. The waiter was nowhere to be seen.
